Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel is a wearable device that works together with the user's mobile phone to create a protective gadget that helps women get out of compromising situations. The concept of Guardian Angel was first put together by JWT Singapore in support of AWARE (Association of Women for Action and Research.) The device offers women and girls a simple intervention they can call upon in times of trouble.

We were approached by CuriousLab to develop the mobile app component that links the device to mobile phones via Bluetooth. The result is a set of iOS and Android mobile apps supporting the Bluetooth Smart Low Energy technology.

A device with a cause

Guardian Angel is both a challenge and welcome opportunity for us to be able to work on a meaningful project that may someday help or save someone's life. That's something we could not say "no" to.

The Guardian Angel mobile app is developed to take advantage of the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 4.0 technology (Bluetooth Smart) on iOS 7 and Android 4.3, transforming the wearable accessory to a handy utility that is able to fake an incoming phone call, or to send an SOS message to a friend. Using SMS technology for the SOS messages means that Guardian Angel works regardless of whether the recipient uses an iPhone, Android or Windows phone, and it also works not just locally, but also internationally.

Making a fake call

Press the Guardian Angel once and it activates a fake call on the phone to get the user out of that sticky situation, or maybe an awkward date. Your phone is instantly transformed into a friend, personal assistant, or bodyguard, if that's your kind of thing.

Send an SOS

Press and hold the button for 3 seconds to activate the SOS function which automatically sends an SMS to your designated contact person. A link of your GPS location is also included in the SMS so you can be easily found.
